I thank my lucky stars that I found Shaye Marlow because it has been a long, long time since I’ve loved a book as much as I loved Two Cabins, One Lake!

Series: An Alaskan Romance
The Blurb
Helly is a volatile blonde with a passion for fishing, a grudging tolerance for the fishermen she guides, and a part-time job putting her sexual fantasies in writing. She lives a quiet life in the Alaskan bush, alone on her little lake with only a spooky dog and her gun collection for company.
But then Gary, the most obnoxious man Helly’s ever met, roars into her life. The mysterious helicopter pilot moves into the cabin across the lake with a vengeance. And fire. And karaoke. He’s a despicably early riser with a penchant for public indecency, a talent for trespassing… and he’s handsome as the devil, with abs she’d like to lick.
Helly quickly realizes her little lake isn’t big enough for the two of them. After an initial attempt at being reasonable, and responsible, and mature, she gives up—and gives as good as she gets. What follows is a feud of eardrum-battering intensity; a no-holds-barred water fight to the tune of a screaming chainsaw, with her panties caught in the crossfire.
Just when Helly thinks things couldn’t possibly get any worse, her crazy brothers crash the party. In an unforgiving land where even the wildlife is out for blood, can the pair survive long enough for Gary to capture Helly’s heart, along with her wrists? Or will Gary’s past be the final blow, after Helly loses her boat, her dignity, and what’s left of her ammo?
For lovers of Alaskan romance and romantic comedy, Two Cabins, One Lake is a sexy, standalone contemporary romance novel with action & adventure, a splash of mystery & suspense, and a satisfying conclusion. Take a vacation to Alaska, where everything’s bigger & wilder. You’ll laugh out loud!
My Review
When I first saw this novel on iBooks, I cringed. The title instantly made me feel uncomfortable and if you don’t know why then you’re wonderfully lucky! I read the blurb out of curiosity because my friend and I thought it must be some kind of joke. As usual, I was pleasantly surprised. I secretly downloaded the book so my friend didn’t know and read it as soon as I got home. I could not put this book down and it consumed my thoughts for days.

As I have very few complaints, let’s start with the things I loved about this book.
- I’m obsessed with Helly. Everything about her personality drew me in; she’s strong, fiery, hilarious and very, very naughty! I’ve read too many books where the female is portrayed as weak and struggling so it was a breath of fresh air to connect with Helly!
- Although her brothers were absoloute trouble makers, I loved their personalities. Shaye Marlow took on a lot of work by giving Helly three brothers and a best friend but she managed to give each character enough depth and space to create a lovely image of Helly’s childhood.
- The spice! My goodness…the dirty scenes in this book are divine!! Some hints towards exhibitionism that were written beautifully and had me on the edge of my seat!
- The action chapters were the cherry on top of the cake. It gave an insight into Gary and his past which I think was definitely necessary!

Even though I loved this book, there were some things that I either didn’t like or felt other people would be uncomfortable with.
- I love italics, don’t get me wrong but it was almost impossible to read a page without one word being italicised. Very small criticism though.
- The sexism from the male characters in this book was hard to swallow. I know that Shaye Marlow was writing the truth for many women in ‘jobs for men’ but I honestly wanted to reach through the book and strangle those horrid, sexist men! So really it’s not a criticism of the book, it’s a criticism of those men that exist in real life ha!
- I feel like there was still a lot of mystery around Gary’s character when I finished the book. I would’ve liked to of heard more about his family and friends rather than just some babblings during sex.
- The action scenes were at the very end of the book which made them feel like an afterthought. Bringing the action in a few chapters would’ve, in my opinion, felt less rushed.
The best part, SUGAR AND SPICE TIME!

I have only given this book 2/5 sweetness because for a lot of it, Gary and Helly hated each other and it was purely sex. However, towards the end there were some cute chapters. The spice HAD to be given a whopping 4/5 because those naughtier scenes were written perfectly with just enough detail! The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 was because I would’ve liked a dash more kink.
Overall Rating
OBSESSED. I was obsessed with this book from the moment I picked it up till the moment I turned the last page. I loved Helly, Suzy, the three brothers, the cabin…EVERYTHING! I adored the setting in the Alaskan wilderness and I’m so stoked I found Shaye Marlow. I’ve already checked out the second book and my goodness…somehow it’s better than this one! I think I’m fully hitched on this authors bandwagon. I would recommend this book to someone who wants a unique read with a strong protagonist and errs on the side of kink but doesn’t fully jump in.
